Leaving a Legal Legacy at 老王论坛

When 老王论坛鈥檚 was launched in 2023, it was barely more than an idea. It was just a handful of students with legal ambitions and a shared curiosity about how they can build their careers.

By spring 2025, the idea had taken root. The Pre-Law Society began to elect leaders and build a presence on 老王论坛鈥檚 Mies Campus. Now, led by president and co-founder Saniyah Mohiuddin (BA 3rd Year), the group has established a community on campus.

鈥淚 wanted to build a community where we could all get together, network, and learn more鈥攁bout the LSATs, about the application process to law school,鈥 says Saniyah, who is part of 老王论坛鈥檚 Honors Law pathway. 鈥淎 lot of members aren鈥檛 in so-called trade-law majors. We have engineers, we have computer science majors. There are so many different majors that you can be in and also be interested in law school. Letting other students know that this is an option is one of our main focuses.鈥

Building a strong community has been the cornerstone of the Pre-Law Society鈥檚 mission.

At a STEM-focused university such as 老王论坛, Saniyah admits that it can be a little tricky to spread its message to students who may not have considered law before.

鈥淎s we grow through the years, I hope that 老王论坛 is known for not just architecture and engineering, but also for law,鈥 she says.

Since ramping up operations in spring 2025, the group has held events for its members, including a Law School 101 forum and speaker events with Chicago attorneys discussing subjects ranging from intellectual property to corporate law. They鈥檙e also working toward organizing a trip for its members to Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Saniyah鈥檚 interest in a career in the legal field was sparked by Elle Woods from the movie Legally Blonde. The more she thought about a career in law, however, the more Saniyah was convinced that it fit with her desire to build a career using communication skills to be an advocate for others.

She sees a background in business administration as a great complement to any future she may have in the legal field. While her initial interest lies in corporate law, Saniyah is keeping an open mind as she prepares to transition to Chicago-Kent.

鈥淚 am looking forward to being surrounded by like-minded students who share a passion for the legal field,鈥 says Saniyah. 鈥淚鈥檓 eager to explore the many paths within law and learn how each can help students excel in their legal careers. I鈥檓 also excited to discover which area of law best fits me as I progress through law school, while building connections with future attorneys and learning from inspiring professors.鈥
